Poland

Warsaw, our first and so far only visit to Poland, was seen in a hectic weekend in November 2007. We had 48 hours in this beautiful city and despite the cold and some drizzle we saw many of the main sites, in particular the old town, the main throughfare known as the Royal Route and the many sites of interest adjacent to it as we meandered south to the Royal Park at Lazienkach. We were impressed at the attention to detail that had gone into reconstructing the city as it was before the Second World War, despite it's almost total destruction by 1945. Everyone we came into contact with was friendly, helpful and used English as the language of tourism. The city was vibrant and lively although there was some evidence of poverty in the forbidding apartment blocks we could see in some of the suburbs. We enjoyed our all too brief time in Poland and would like one day to return for a longer visit, including some of the other areas of this reportedly beautiful country. |
