Niagara and the Falls

Niagara Falls was the must see of our time in Canada. We were thrilled to have seen them. As the satellite image shows, they are in a residential area. We had expected a less urban setting and found the commercial exploitation of one of the natural wonders of the world rather tacky. To see the neighborhood click here

Horseshoe Falls
This was the only wet day of our time in Canada so we took a large leisurely buffet lunch overlooking the falls at modest cost despite the location. This is the Canadian or Horseshoe Falls ...
American Falls ... and this is the American Falls incorporating the Bridal Veil Falls. There are many ways to see the falls but this is the only way to do so and remain dry! We made the Journey Behind the Falls and ...
Horseshoe Falls and Maid of the Mist ... took a ride on the Maid of the Mist. They do issue plastic capes but there is no way they keep you dry. It is worth getting up close and wet - the Falls are awesome!!

Two boats can carry up to 300 passengers each and two up to 600. They look very small and insignificant next to the might of the Falls.
Aaron's Bed B+B Aaron's Bed about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls in the wonderful old town of Niagara on the Lake provided an excellent overnight stop to dry off and get warm.
The Falls and hotels The following morning we returned to the Falls to see them in the dry from a safe distance. You rarely see the nearby hotels in pictures but you are in the self styled 'honeymoon capital of the world'.
The Falls and the road We found the hotels, amusement arcades and tacky gift shops reminiscent of the worst of the British sea-side.
Horseshoe Falls spray Without the rain, the plume of spray from the Horseshoe Falls can be clearly seen.
The American Falls The American & The Bridal Veil Falls with a Maid of the Mist leaving the Canadian landing stage.
Alan & Gill at The Falls We enjoyed our time at The Falls and decided to drive across The Rainbow Bridge which connects Niagara Falls ON with Niagara Falls NY. We took a day to drive around the south - USA - side of Lake Ontario, about 250 miles, and re-entered Canada at Kingston ON.
